My colleague and I offer psychotherapeutic help and counseling for children, adolescents and young adults, as well as their parents. Together, we cover a broad range of approaches and methods (psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy – complemented by solution-focused and systemic approaches) and look forward to working together with you.

Appointments

We are best reached by phone during our consultation hours, which are Mondays from 9:00-11:00, at 0176-42796843.

You can also leave us a message on the voicemail at 06421-167549 or send an email to info@praxis-schmidhuber.de. However, please understand that it may not always be possible to respond promptly to all messages during ongoing practice activities, and we appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Costs

The costs of psychotherapeutic services in our practice are covered by German health insurance companies.

Private health insurance providers or government subsidies (Beihilfe) typically also cover psychotherapeutic services. However, the specific regulations depend on the terms of the respective insurance policies. Therefore, we recommend checking in advance for the exact rules of your health insurance and government subsidy. Billing is done according to the Fee Schedule for Psychotherapists (GOP).

Of course, it is also possible to pay the costs of psychotherapy yourself. In this case, the fees are also determined according to the Fee Schedule for Psychotherapists (GOP).

Therapy Services

Most of the time psychological symptoms arise from a complex interplay of various factors and are often an expression of individual attempts to cope with stressors. In therapy, our first step is working together to understand the underlying problem(s) and then developing new/different ways of coping.

Reasons to seek psychotherapeutic help may include:

  • Anxiety, panic, significant and persistent worries
  • Depression, persistent low mood
  • Trauma and trauma-related disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Attention and concentration problems, with or without hyperactivity (AD(H)D)
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Oppositional or aggressive behavior
  • Obsessions and compulsions, as well as tics
  • Sleep difficulties, either difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Physical complaints without clear organic cause, pain disorders
  • Self-harming behavior
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Coping with specific stress situations
  • Problems in kindergarten, school, training, or work

Diagnostic Process

Despite current long waiting times for available therapy slots, we offer timely and comprehensive diagnostics. If it turns out that, instead of or in addition to psychotherapy, other support options are currently more suitable, we provide information on further possibilities for assistance and support.

During therapeutic consultations, an initial clarifying session can be scheduled to discuss the concerns and our further course of action. This is followed by appointments for specific diagnostics with the child/adolescent and the caregivers. We use tools such as questionnaires, intelligence and developmental tests, as well as projective methods. In the concluding discussion, we review all results together and consider the next steps.

Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder

In addition to diagnosing the issues/disorders listed under therapy services, our practice also offers specific autism diagnosis. As a screening, we initially use the FSK/MBAS questionnaires and, if there are relevant indicators, proceed with a comprehensive diagnosis using the ADI-R and ADOS-2.

In the assessment discussion , we offer detailed advice on further therapy and support options. Following this, you will receive a written report outlining the diagnosis and additional therapy recommendations. For further questions about autism (such as dealing with the diagnosis, strategies for daily life or school, or the relationship between autism and ADHD), you are welcome to reach out for additional counseling sessions.

In general, diagnostics are covered by statutory health insurance, but if desired, they can also be conducted on a self-payment basis. Billing is then based on the Fee Schedule for Psychotherapists (GOP).

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist (Psychodynamic Therapy)

Certified Child Protection Specialist

Areas of Focus:

ADHD and Autism

Trauma and Trauma-Related Disorders

My foundational training in psychodynamic therapy helps me better understand the behavior/thought patterns underlying current issues and develop ideas for change together with my patients. A resource- and solution-oriented perspective can then aid in creating concrete strategies and providing support during their implementation. It is particularly important to me to always keep the focus on the individual goals and needs of the patients, considering them as the ‚experts of their own lives.‘ Additionally, understanding the unique needs of neurodivergent individuals and those who have experienced traumatic events in their lives is crucial in guiding my therapeutic work.
